Founder & Executive Director, Balkis Chaabane, Kicks Off An Internal Series Of Training For YTN Volunteers

New York City — Youth Transforming Narratives (YTN) is proud to announce the successful completion of its first in-house training on the Youth, Peace, and Security (YPS) agenda, led by Executive Director Balkis Chaabane. This training is part of YTN’s ongoing efforts to empower youth leaders and further its mission to promote peace and security on a global scale. It is the first training in a series of professional and career growth trainings for YTN’s staff and volunteers.

The training was a direct continuation of Balkis Chaabane's participation in the Training of Trainers online Movers Programme on YPS Level 1, sponsored by the UNDP Asia Pacific Bureau and the United States Institute of Peace (USIP). This foundational workshop provided YTN staff members with a comprehensive understanding of the YPS agenda, showcasing concrete examples of youth-led initiatives that are advancing peace and security around the world.

“The YPS agenda is a critical framework for empowering young people to take active roles in peacebuilding and conflict prevention,” said Balkis. “This training equipped our team with the strategies and mindsets needed to integrate the YPS agenda into our work at YTN, ensuring that our efforts are both impactful and sustainable.”

Key outcomes from the training include:

  • Comprehensive Understanding of YPS: Staff members gained in-depth knowledge of the YPS agenda, including its key principles, objectives, and the importance of youth leadership in promoting peace.

  • Youth-Led Solutions: The workshop highlighted inspiring examples of youth-led initiatives that are making tangible contributions to peace and security, providing a model for YTN’s future projects.

  • Implementation Strategies: Participants were equipped with practical strategies and mindsets to effectively implement the YPS agenda through their work, ensuring that YTN remains at the forefront of youth-driven peacebuilding efforts.

YTN is also excited to announce the recruitment of an exceptional pool of volunteers who have joined the newly formed YTN Youth Peace and Security team. This dedicated team has been hard at work developing a strategic plan for the year, with a focus on empowering young people to take active roles in promoting peace, preventing conflict, and addressing the root causes of violence in their communities.
